MANILA, Philippines — Many parts of the country will experience overcast skies and rains on Wednesday due to two weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

In a morning weather forecast, state weather specialist Benison Estareja identified the systems as the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan and the easterlies.

According to Estareja, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring cloudy skies with rains to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte.

“Nakakapekto na sa malaking bahagi po ng Luzon, so medyo malakas na po ito muli sa ngayon, at aasahan din ang mga mahina hanggang katamtamang mga pag-ulan,” Estareja noted.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Estareja said the easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Caraga, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, and Davao Oriental.

“Sa parteng Visayas and Mindanao naman, nandyan pa rin ‘yung epekto ng mainit na easterlies o ‘yung hangin po galing sa silangan na siyang nagdadala rin ng mga pag-ulan,” he explained.

(In parts of Visayas and Mindanao, the warm easterlies, or winds from the east, continue to bring rainfall.)

The rest of the country will also see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

Pagasa is also looking at cloud clusters east of Mindanao for potential weather disturbances.

“Bagamat mababa ang tsansa na ito ay maging isang bagyo, mino-monitor natin dito sa ngayon for possible formation as a low-pressure area naman po,” Estareja pointed out.

(Although the chances of these cloud clusters developing into a storm remain low, we are currently monitoring them for possible formation into a low-pressure area.)

Due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, Pagasa has issued a gale warning for the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, where wave heights could reach 2.8 to 4.5 meters.
